KYLIE COSMETICS GLOSS REVIEW ON WOC + GIVEAWAY

Left to right: Like, Literally, So Cute

New shorter brush applicator

This feels like it has taken an eternity but, I finally am doing a review on the infamous Kylie cosmetics lip gloss by Kylie Jenner's makeup line. I snagged these on the first launch on 4/1 and we all know by now the whole hot mess express that happened with the brush design on the first launch. Long story short I ended up with a total of 10 glosses 5 were the o.g long brush that I purchased and the other 5 were the short brushed bristles. So given the circumstances I'm giving away one of each color.

Moving onto the review the glosses currently come in three colors of nude: like, literally, and so cute. The packaging is the same as that on the liquid lip kit lipsticks. The one biggest downfall to this product in my opinion is the applicator. Even after shortening it, I still feel like it makes the product apply streaky. With this formulation I think that a doe foot would have been a better choice due to the creamy texture and color. This brush type works well with shimmer or glitter glosses that are sheer such as MAC dazzleglass because they are not as opaque.

Like, Literally, So Cute
Since formulation varies based on color especially in these glosses I'm going to break it down by color.

Literally with ring light
Starting both Like and Literally since they are the most similar out of the trio and wearable in my opinion.

Color description:

per Kylie's site it is described as "The ‘Like’ shade is a warm mocha, warm brown beige."
This color pulls differently depending on your skin tone. On me it pulls more warm brown pinky/ terracotta. This color is the best for WOC in my opinion and is the most universally flattering shade.

The ‘Literally’ shade is a warm toned peachy nude.
On my skin tone this pulls more of a light mauve with a hint of peach to it. This is not a color I personally feel comfortable with wearing alone without a liner or layered with something else. My personal favorite way to wear this is to fill in my lips with colourpop chi lip pencil and place "literally" in the center of my lips with "like" on the outer corners.

Texture & wear:

One thing about me is that I absolutely DESPISE lip gloss, though I have a few exceptions like the buxom lip creme polishes and Anastasias lip glosses. It's mainly the sticky thick texture that puts me off with glosses. The Kylie lipgloss puts me in mind of the Anastasias texture and wear wise. It's not sticky IF it's not layered, when it is it tends to get thick and heavy and slightly sticky though not Mac lipglass level sticky.  They have a creamy type of texture with a good amount of slip to it. It wears just as long as you would expect any gloss which isn't very long at all depending on what you are doing and what it is paired with. One thing I do have to say about these that both me and my mom found is that they leave your lips extremely soft and moisturized.

Pigmentation:

These two colors are very opaque. One layer gets full color coverage without streaking.

Now onto the shade that makes me look like a crackhead: so cute

Color:

per Kylie's site The ‘So Cute’ shade is a warm nude beige.

This is a very very pale almost white with a hint of pink, peach, and beige. This color is flattering by itself on very few people besides those that are fair-light. Otherwise I would stay very far from this shade for anyone that is medium and darker. I don't even think that pairing this without mixing it a lot would help. My philosophy with mixing and lining is that if you have to do it to the point to where it totally alters the color, there is no point in getting that color in the first place just look for a shade closer to the one you mixed it to.

Texture and wear:

same as that of the previous two glosses.

Pigmentation: This is where the major difference comes into play between the other two glosses and this one. And I honestly think this is due largely in part to the color and the brush tip applicator, but this color is STREAKY AF. It took me a good 3 layers to get the opacity shown in the pics with minimum streaking even though it is still there.
I honestly think that a lot of hitches could have been avoided in this product in general with better planning and ditching that brush tip applicator. If these would have had a applicator similar to that on the Anastasia glosses this product would be an A. Though I do like commend them on how they handled their error in the brush design. I do feel like the shorter brushes give a better application with not as much product being loaded onto the brush.

Price:

These retail for $15 on the kyliecosmetics.com site. It also gives you the option to buy all 3 bundled for $45

Smell/scent:

it has a scent that is hard to place. Some try to say it smells like cupcake or vanilla but to me and others I haven't found this. It of course smells very artificial and cloying sweet at first, it's not a bad scent per se just not my cup of tea. After applied the scent doesn't linger.

Overall rating : B
